VHS Digitization Kit

Don't let your video and audio memories disappear - save them to digital format with our VHS Digitization Kit!

The Digitization Kit is able to convert video and audio from old formats (VHS, camcorder tapes, AV, RCA, Hi8, direct from camcorder, DVD, turntables, cassette tapes) into a digital file (WAV, MPS, or MP4).

The VHS Digitization Kit includes:

  • ClearClick 3.0 digital converter
  • ClearClick User's Manual and Quick Start Guide
  • AV composite cable (audio and video)
  • A composite cable (audio only)
  • Charging block
  • USB-C to USB cable (for charging)
  • VHS-C cassette adapter and instructions (for us with camcorder cassettes)
  • VHS to MP4 Quick Guide
  • Carrying case

You must supply:

  • USB flash/thumb drive or SD card (512GB or less)
  • VHS or other media types in working condition (if your player can't play it, you can't capture it!)

The digital converter requires connection to a media player with a working "AV OUT" port, such as a VCR, cassette player or camcorder.

Digitization Kit use details

The Digitization Kit is available for 1 1-week loan or in-house use (Dunnville Branch only). Holds can be placed on the Digitization Kit. It can be picked up and returned at any branch of HCPL. Please do not return the Digitization Kit to the drop box. You must have a library card to borrow this kit. If you don't have a library card - get one today!

In-house use (Dunnville Branch only) is available for those who do not have a VCR at home. The Digitization Kit and VCR can be used in a study or meeting room for 2 hours per session. Please speak with library staff who can place a hold on the Digitization Kit and book a space for you.

For in-house use, please note HCPL is not responsible for any damage which may occur to VHA tapes when using an in-house VCR. Please know there is a risk they could be damaged beyond use before you start your project.

Although we no longer charge fines on many library materials due to the high replacement cost of this item, a fee of $1.00 per day will be charged for late return. If the items in the kit are damaged beyond use or lost, a replacement fee of $360 plus a processing fee will be charged to the borrower's account.

Please be aware of the important information provided here when embarking on your digitization journey.

The quality of the video on the player will be the quality of the digital file. This does not upscale to high definition (HD) quality. It cannot record from HDMI sources. What you see is what you get!

The process of digitizing content is a 1:1 time ratio and cannot be sped up. Be sure to give yourself enough time when you start your project to complete it. For in-house use, large projects may require multiple bookings of study or meeting rooms. Please discuss this with staff before you start your project.

HCPL is not responsible for any damage which may occur to personal VHS tapes when using the in-house VCR. Please know there is a risk that they could be damaged beyond use before you start your project.

HCPL is not responsible for infringing copies made by users of the Digitization Equipment. It is the user's obligation and responsibility to determine and satisfy copyright or other use restrictions.

Funds for the VHS Digitization Kit were generously donated by The Friends of the Dunnville Library.
