Teen Reviewers

Haldimand teens looking for volunteer hours can earn them by reviewing a wide variety of library materials.

How it works

Teen Reviewers submit reviews of books, movies, eBooks, digital audiobooks, graphic novels, music, and/or video games that are owned by the Haldimand County Public Library.

Teen Reviewer process:

  1. Fill out the online application form at the bottom of this page or a paper copy from your library branch.
  2. Check out an item from the library
  3. Read, watch, listen or play the library item
  4. Write a meaningful and concise review of approximately 200 to 500 words
  5. Submit your review to our Outreach Coordinator
  6. Send our Outreach Coordinator your school volunteer tracking form to receive credit for your volunteer hours.
  7. These reviews are then used to promote the library’s collection to other teens

Each review counts as two volunteer hours. Reviewers are responsible for ensuring their volunteer paperwork is submitted to their school.

Reviews should include:

  • Your name and grade
  • Name of material being reviewed
  • The item’s format (book, audiobook, DVD, etc.)
  • The author
  • Summary of the material
  • Description of what you liked or disliked about the material
  • Whether you would recommend it to someone else saying why or why not
  • A rating out of 5, with 1 being horrible and 5 amazing

For submission, reviews must:

Submissions will not count toward volunteer hours if:

  • The review is not submitted by the June 1
  • The review contains offensive language
  • The review has significant errors in spelling and grammar
  • The review is not an original piece of work
